OUT FROM UNDER MY FEET
First off some housekeeping. Thankyou to all those who have subscribed so far. I’ve had some good comments and hope you enjoy this weeks yarn
This is a bit different. Something I thought of while driving down the Mokau coast last week. The Tasman crashing onto the beach, gusting winds sending a salty mist across the highway as I made my home.
The rain hasn’t stopped since dawn, thick fog lingering in the valley. Visibility short and trails slick. Up the hill I go, winding my way toward the saddle. Little shelter around. Just a man on a wet track, pondering the day ahead.
From seemingly nowhere, it lurched from the edge of the track, the initial impact striking on my right side and sending me sliding with its force. I fight to keep my balance, struggling to stay upright, tread scratching for grip on the hard trail. Grappling with the beast I grip to it tightly, my knuckles glowing white. Fighting to stay upright for a man on his arse seldom wins a fight.
It lunges back to the right, I throw my leg out but I’m too slow. The shiny black animal comes down hard, talons ripping at my leg before pinning me to the trail. He’s got side control and is looking for mount. I manage to slip a shin in and roll to guard, killing the machine as I go.
Stepping back and collecting myself I look down at the subdued Bull. It takes its last breath and spins to a stop.
Of course, there was no beast. Well not as depicted above. This is an attempt to metaphorize an event. To take a moment from life and drag as much excitement out of it as possible. To really dig in and get the imagination going.
The shiny black animal in this yarn is my bike and the talons ripping at my leg, the foot pegs. I had a doozy on my bike last week. I sent a picture to Mum and told her it was a pig. She seemed to take it as truth so I ran with it, coming up with a quick yarn about a nasty little 60 pounder. This made me think, how could I take todays polava and really get imaginative. I hope you enjoyed it.

Good Yarn Bruce!
